Thanksgiving and Christmas Trees.

November 29, 2016

Hi guys!

Well, thank goodness it's a new week! Thanksgiving kinda killed us. We had barely any lessons this week. So many people were out of town or busy with Thanksgiving. I actually think we were lucky to get the lessons we had. So yeah, I'm glad that's over. Not that Thanksgiving wasn't fun, it's just not the best time for full time missionary work, unfortunately.

There were some enjoyable moments from this past week, though. On Thanksgiving, we survived two and a half dinners. Unlike Thanksgiving last year, I remembered to pace myself, so I didn't feel like completely exploding or hibernating for a month afterward. And it was good getting to know the members better.

Also last week we went up on top of the mountain and I got a Christmas tree. We went with a couple other missionaries and they got one too. Both of them are really small. Especially mine. It's super tiny. And we didn't cut them. We decided to dig them up and pot them so they could hopefully stay alive (I need to add some more dirt to mine because it settled a lot). So now we have pet trees. I named mine Telperion after a magical tree in one of JRR Tolkien's books. The other Elders named theirs "Bruce The Spruce" (which was actually my idea too). I've included a picture of a Telperion with this email.

Well that's about it. Not a very eventful week. Before ending though, I'd like to encourage you all to check out the new Christmas Initiative on Mormon.org. It's pretty good. The video is all about celebrating Christ's birth by doing the things Christ would do Himself, serving others. For every day in December leading up to Christmas, there are suggestions for different forms of service we can do. I think it's a pretty cool way to remember the Savior. So go check it out!

Have a great week!
