Week Two, New Companions, Fake Fish and Chips, and Last Day at the MTC

February 3, 2015

Hi Everybody! Elder Oswald here! This past week has been great. I can't believe how much I've learned! I'm still far from a perfect teacher, but I'm probably seven times better than I was a week ago. We've had some really good devotionals. No apostles as of yet, but maybe tonight for the Tuesday devotional we'll get one. We've really become close as a district. It is kind of crazy. We feel like we've all been friends for years, yet we've only known each other for two weeks.

In my district, there were three Elders going to Dallas, and the other five of us are going to St. George. Going to Dallas were Elder Thornley and Elder Hornbeck, and my companion Elder Rimer. They left early Monday morning, so as of Sunday night, I got some new companions. I'm now in a trio with Elder Miller from Missouri, and Elder Martell from New Zealand. Both of them are awesome! And Elder Martell is hilarious, plus he has a cool accent.

So, the MTC food is pretty good. Don't worry, I don't think I've gained much, if any weight. Although there have been a couple evenings where the ice cream bar is open, I've been good with not eating too much. Last night was a little disappointing. All the menus posted around the cafeteria said one of the options was cod and English chips. Depending on the fish, I've come to love fish and chips, and I do love cod. But what I got was not cod, but shrimp. What the what?! How do you get those two things confused? One is a delicious marine vertebrate, the other is a nasty (I suppose delicious to some people) invertebrate that should really just remain as whale food. Anyway, at least the chips were were good. And I don't mean to criticize the MTC food people. They are awesome. I'm just playfully mad at that seafood mix-up.

Today is my last day at the MTC! I leave for St. George tomorrow at, wait for it...3:30AM! Yep, that's going to be interesting. But I'm excited to go to St. George and to meet the mission president, and I'll be traveling with a fantastic group of Elders! I look forward to getting to work. I'm not yet sure when my P-Day will be, but I will let you know. I assume it will be Monday like most other places, but it could be different. I hope everyone is doing well! I miss you guys!

-Elder Oswald
