Hello family and friends and whoever is reading this!
This past week has been interesting. I left the MTC, and I'm now in my
mission area. This area just so happens to be about as far away from St.
George as you can get without crossing mission boundaries: The Mount
Pleasant area. It includes Mount Pleasant, Fairview, Spring City,
Indianola, and Whispering Pines, and covers 2 stakes, comprising 15
wards! And even more crazy, my companion, Elder Falconbury, and I are
the only two Elders for the entire area!
So this
first week hasn't been much. The previous Elders didn't leave very good
records; they only left a short list of progressing investigators, so
we've basically been trying to track people down, get referrals, and
rebuild our investigator pool. We've met quite a few of the members and
they are really nice! On Friday, we had our first lesson with an
investigator. It went really well, and we got her to go to a baptism on
Saturday to see what it is like. The ward mission leader informed us
that she really liked it, so that's good. Hopefully she'll be baptized
soon. Both parents are active members, so that ought to help. On
Saturday, a lot of our appointments fell through. As we were driving we
saw someone cleaning out a house so we stopped to help. She said that
she had her family helping her so we didn't need to help, except with
moving a very large cabinet, so we did that. Guess who she was: Elder
Perry's daughter in law! We didn't get to meet Elder Perry, but it was
still cool. Service is good anyway, plus it was nice to actually do
something since most of our appointments didn't happen.
So,
yeah, I guess there's not much more to say at this point. It's been
crazy and stressful, and I've felt a bit homesick sometimes, but
over-all it's been good.
I love you guys! Write me letters! The more the merrier. Have a nice week!
-Elder Oswald
