Elder Oswald gets a greenie, visits the boonies and nearly loses his mind

Hi everybody!

This week has been insane! Basically transfers through everything off. On Tuesday, Elder Spencer got shipped off to Mt. Pleasant, and later I went down to St. George for the evening so I could be there for the trainer meeting on Wednesday morning. Wednesday pretty much all day was the trainer meeting and the new missionary meeting. I got my new companion, Elder Bright, and around 4:30 we went back up to Enoch. Then early Thursday morning, we had to go back to St. George for Elder Bright and the other greenies' iPad training. And then Friday was a teaching workshop that President did in Cedar City. Meanwhile, about any time that wasn't spent in meetings, I was doing paperwork, trying schedule/reschedule appointments, and trying to set up rides. Unfortunately we were not able to teach many appointments this past week. Transfers are crazy anyway, but with all these meetings,
training a new missionary, and then the extra stuff that comes with being a District Leader, I thought I was about to lose my mind completely.

Being a District Leader is hard work. One of the things I get to do is give baptismal interviews. On Friday, the Enterprise Elders needed two interviews done for some people getting baptized that Saturday. That would be fine, except Enterprise is almost 50 miles away, through the mountains, in the middle of nowhere almost to the Nevada border. It's pretty much just in the boonies, one of those areas that I look at and think: "why does this place exist?!" It took about 50,000 phone calls, but thankfully we got a ride out there and back. I was nervous because I'd never done an interview before. That ended up going well. But I severely underestimated the paperwork. A baptismal record has to be filled out perfectly, and there's a fair amount of information that goes on that thing, and I had to fill out two in one go. That paperwork alone took a about full hour. But at least now I know what to expect, and I'm more comfortable with it.

With all of this craziness plus the lack of lessons, I felt really beat down for awhile. There were a couple times I thought I was going to go crazy. But a miracle happened and I survived! The Lord really does help us, especially when it is something he calls us to do. Apparently, He wants me to be a trainer and a District Leader. And he's been helping me a lot this week to fulfill that. The Book of Mormon prophet, Nephi,  said "I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them." I really have a testimony of that. This week was super stressful, but I got through it. The Lord provided a way that I could accomplish the stuff that He wants me to do. The Lord does help us, and He loves us. I'm so grateful for that help.  Also, this week is shaping up to be really good! So that's awesome too! I've noticed that more often than not, a bunch of trials are followed by a bunch of blessings. I've seen that a lot in the scriptures, and in my life as a missionary.

So yeah, that's the major stuff from this past week. In other news, we were able to meet with Crystal again, and her life is starting to calm down a bit more, and she has a new baptismal date set for this month! Also, my new companion, Elder Bright, is pretty awesome. I'm glad I get to train him.

Well, that's all for now. Have a great week!

-Elder Oswald
