My First Exchange and Snow

March 2, 2015

Hi everybody! It's been a great week! Our investigators are still doing well, and our lessons have been really good. So all's well there!

On Wednesday I had my first companion exchange. My companion, Elder Falconbury stayed in the Mt. Pleasant/Fairview area, and our district leader, Elder Samuelson came to join him there. I went with Elder Boox to their area in Moroni. Elder Boox is really cool and funny. So, funny thing, neither myself nor Elder Boox have a driver's licence (I wish I had a little bit more time before I left to get mine) so we had to walk all day! Luckily, Moroni isn't a very big town. Another funny thing; the Elders in Moroni are bilingual. They cover the Moroni area, as well as all Spanish speaking investigators in the pretty much the entire zone, from Manti north to Nephi and over to Fairview and Mt. Pleasant. Almost all the appointments for that day in Moroni were with Spanish speaking investigators! And I only speak a few words and phrases in Spanish. So I mostly just had to sit in on the lessons and let Elder Boox do all the talking. I did get to say a prayer (the investigator said it was okay if I said it in English), and I could say hello, goodbye, goodnight, thank you, and a few other friendly phrases but that was about it. But it was still a cool experience.

We finally got some snow! It has been a very warm and dry winter, and I'm sure all of you in Michigan are jealous. But here in Utah, they need snow. The melting snow in the mountains is where the majority of their water comes from throughout the year. If they get a big snow pack during the winter, then they'll have a good amount of water through the spring and summer. But if there isn't a lot of snow, that means a drought's a comin'. There's been hardly any snow here so people have been really worrying. Tons of people have been fasting and praying for moisture, and it has finally come. We had a couple snow storms the last few days, but except in the mountains, it has all melted by noon the next day. But today, we woke up and the ground is covered in snow. We had about 2 or 3 inches earlier this morning and it has been been snowing all day so far, and though I haven't checked (I've been typing emails the last while) there's probably a good inch or two more out there since the last time I was out. Even more importantly, if the valley is getting this much, that means the mountains are getting a lot, and as stated before, the mountain snow pack is what matters most. And yes I know a couple inches is not nearly as impressive as Michigan, or it's record breaking cold temperatures, but it is something. The Lord answers prayers!

Well, I'm about out of time for today, but I just want to say how much I love being a missionary. I know that God is our loving Heavenly Father, and that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, as the apostle Peter once said. And I know that He lives, and that this is His work, and I love it!

I miss you guys! Good luck with everything! May the Spirit be with you!

-Elder Oswald
